The Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation has a publicly stated policy of opposing the use of genetic modification (transgenics) in salmon production.
There is currently no such activity on Scottish farms and we can foresee no circumstance under which there would be in the future.
The Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation (SSPO) is a member of the International Salmon Farmers Association (ISFA). In 1996 the following policy was adopted at the Seventeenth General Meeting:
"In accordance with sound environmental practice, the IFSA firmly rejects transgenics salmon production."
The above statement was reconfirmed at ISFAs Twenty Third General Meeting in August 2000.
