  • Highland aquaculture business to create 14 new jobs
April 20th 2020

A family-owned Highland business is to create 14 new jobs as it expands its support for Scotland's salmon farming sector.

Migdale Transport, a member of the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation, is buying a new purpose built wellboat in order to fulfill a number of supply chain contracts, including with Cooke aquaculture.

The vessel, which will have a crew of 12 with 2 further people acting in support roles, has been specifically designed to operate in the challenging conditions around the Scottish coasts and in particular the seas off Orkney and Shetland.

Hugh Murray, managing director at Migdale Transport, said: "This is a significant and exciting addition to our fleet.

In what are challenging economic circumstances, the new vessel will create jobs for the local area, while future-proofing the business for years to come."

The Marsali, currently being built in Norway, has been specifically designed to meet welfare requirements for farmed salmon and will be able to carry up to 210 tons of live fish.
