The guidance is designed to help the food sector prioritise the safety of staff and ensure all employees are following government guidance on infection prevention and control measures against COVID-19.

FFS stress that there is currently no evidence that food is a source of the virus, but highlight that it is more important than ever for food businesses to implement effective Food Safety Management Systems, including the application of frequent and thorough hygiene practice.

Physical (social) distancing also plays a critical role in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in food manufacturing and processing environments, and both managers and staff should ensure this is adhered to wherever possible in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
