  • Salmon Companies in Top Ten of Sustainable Development Index
November 12th 2020

Just a day after the Scottish salmon sector launched its Sustainability Charter - A Better Future For Us All, four companies operating in Scotland have been named in the top ten of the Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index.

Mowi was ranked as the world's most sustainable protein producer for the second year in a row. The company was joined in the top ten by Bakkafrost, which owns The Scottish Salmon Company, Grieg Seafoods and Leroy, which is joint owner of Scottish Sea Farms.

Commending the four members for their top ten ranking in FAIRR Index, Tavish Scott, chief executive of Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation said:

"Congratulations to Mowi, the Scottish Salmon Company, Grieg Seafoods and Scottish Sea Farms. This achievement demonstrates the world-leading standards in salmon farming. It's a further endorsement of both the way Scottish salmon farmers operate now and their capacity to continue to innovate and deliver sustainable, healthy food in a highly responsible way."

The Index assesses 60 publicly-listed animal protein producers with a combined value of over £250 billion across ten key environmental, social and governance criteria. These include greenhouse gas emissions, antibiotic usage and working conditions.
