  • SSPO urges early resolution in tariff dispute
February 5th 2020

Several Scottish salmon products are on a list of products which the US authorities have identified as potential targets for tariffs in the ongoing dispute with the EU over aircraft subsidies.

Julie Hesketh-Laird, Chief Executive of the Scottish Salmon Producers Organisation said:

"We are disappointed to see Scottish salmon products are now on a potential target list for US tariffs.

"If imposed, these tariffs would not be in the interests of Scottish salmon farmers or the US consumer who enjoys a premium quality product from Scotland.

"We would urge early resolution of the dispute to ensure our American customers continue to have access to the world's premium salmon."

It is understood that the US authorities can amend and change the products on their tariff list in the future. Because of this, the SSPO will continue to argue the case for the barrier-free export of all Scottish salmon products to the United States.
